Use keyboard shortcuts in F2

This section describes the use of keyboard shortcuts in selected areas of F2.

See the section Overview of keyboard shortcuts in F2 for a comprehensive list of keyboard shortcuts followed by descriptions of keyboard shortcuts for commonly used F2 operations.

On the "F2" tab in the main, case, and record window you will find the Keyboard shortcuts menu item that provides an overview of all keyboard shortcuts for the current window.

You can navigate in certain areas of F2 using the Tab key, such as the ribbon of the main, record, and case windows as well as the "New email" window (when using simple email mode), and system messages. Tab navigation order is from left to right in any given window. To navigate in reverse, that is, from right to left, hold Shift down while pressing the Tab key.

When navigating to a menu item, field, or similar object, the object is visually highlighted in one of the ways described below.

When you navigate to a menu item in the ribbon or a similar object, it is surrounded by a black square.

Alt shortcuts (KeyTips)

You can navigate in F2’s ribbons using the Alt key combined with letter and number keys. These shortcuts are sometimes called KeyTips or hotkeys and let you navigate from any position in the main, record, or case window to the ribbon and its tabs.

Press Alt to display the KeyTips in F2’s user interface. KeyTips show you which key to press in order to navigate to a tab or to open a menu item on the ribbon. The figure below shows an example of KeyTips.

You can also press the F10 key to display the KeyTips of the main, record, and case windows.

Drop-down menus are found in the ribbon of the main, record, and case windows, in dialogues, and in metadata fields.

You can navigate in drop-down menus using the down arrow and up arrow keys. You can expand and collapse drop-down menus using the F4 key.

You can expand drop-down menus for menu groups in the ribbon with down arrow or up arrow and collapse them using Esc. Use the arrow keys to navigate between the menu items in the drop-down menu.

Main window shortcuts

The following sections describe navigation and action shortcuts in the main window. See the section Overview of keyboard shortcuts in F2 for a comprehensive list.

Use navigation shortcuts to jump between central areas in the main window and other windows with result lists. The figure below and the subsequent table show some examples of navigation shortcuts in the main window.

Place focus in the filtering field above the search lists to the left. Press Tab once to navigate to the search lists. Use the arrow keys to navigate to a search list and press the space bar to open it.

Place focus in the record list.

Place focus in the preview if enabled.

Use the right and left arrow keys to cycle between preview categories (record, participants, approval, or request). Press Enter or space bar to activate a preview.

Ctrl+4

Navigate in the case list when the main window’s result list is shown as cases.

Ctrl+F

Place focus in the free-text search field above the result list.

F6

Jump between main window areas, such as the free-text search field and the result list.

Action shortcuts in the main window

Use action shortcuts to perform typical actions in the main window.

Keyboard shortcut Description

Ctrl + N

Create new record.

Ctrl + M

Create email.

Ctrl + D

Create document from template and attach to new record.

Ctrl + Q

Create chat on the record selected in the result list.

Shift + F10

Open the context menu for one or more records, cases, or documents in the result list. Use this shortcut for mass operations.

F5

Update the current search list manually in the main window or in a search window.

Alt + [key]

Open the corresponding menu item in the ribbon.

Other windows with result lists

The shortcuts for navigation in the main window can be used in other windows containing a result list. They are also available in windows and tabs such as:

  • The "Participants" tab in the record window

  • Search windows that are opened from the following:

    • "Select case(s)"

    • "Attach document from F2"

    • "Add record(s)"

  • The "Participant register" tab in the main window

  • The preview in the main and case windows

  • The "Participants" tab in the preview of records and cases in the main window.

Chat and note window shortcuts

Navigate in the chat and note window using the Tab key.

Add a participant to the chat or note by navigating to the "Add participant" field. Enter the name of the desired participant, and select them with Enter. Press the down arrow key while focus is in the field to select a pre-defined group of participants.

To remove a participant from a chat or note, go to the participant list and navigate to the participant with the up arrow or down arrow key. Press Shift + F10 to open the participant’s context menu. From here, navigate to the "Remove participant" function using the arrow keys. Then press Enter to remove the chat participant.

To navigate between multiple chats or notes in the window, navigate to the list of chats or notes using Tab. Select a chat or note using the arrow keys. When you have selected a new chat or note, focus automatically shifts to the editor pane.

Send a chat or note by pressing Ctrl + Enter. Close the window with Esc or Alt + F4.
