The main window

The main window is what users see when logging into F2. Here users keep track of their tasks, read incoming emails, chats, and requests, search for specific records and cases, create records for internal or external communication, etc. The users’ lists and personal searches are also found here.

Any information generated or received in F2 is stored in F2’s central archive only. The lists are actually archive searches based on metadata and the user’s search phrases. This means all data is only stored once in F2, in the “Archive”.

The main window’s structure

F2’s main window is shown below. This is the window that opens when you log in to F2, and this is where you organise your work. Here you receive incoming emails, search for records in "Archive" and create dynamic lists among many other things.

Figure 1. The primary elements of the main window

The main window layout is similar to other widely used email clients and consists of eight elements:

  • The ribbon (1) where you can find functions for navigation, content management, and display options.

  • The navigation line (2) where you switch between viewing records, meetings, other inboxes, and F2’s participant register.

  • The lists panel (3) from which you access your inbox, desktop and the archive. Use the different lists to retrieve relevant sections of all data in the "Archive".

  • The search field (4) that you use for searching in the "Archive" and other lists.

  • The result list (5) which displays the contents of the selected list - that is, the records, cases, and documents yielded by the list’s search. You can work with and manage the result list elements through the result list’s context menu.

  • The record and documents preview (6).

  • The user identification (7) that displays your user name and current unit.

  • The search tabs (8) which allow you to have multiple lists and searches open at the same time.

The main window ribbon contains four tabs by default:
